Are you fond of cosplay photoshoots? Do you consider cosplay photography being as essential to cosplay as an art form as stage performances? Wanna show your skills and creations in a competition? Then we have some very good news for you! Magicon is introducing its first photo-cosplay competition!
How to participate
All you need to do in order to participate is submit one cosplay photo as a team of one photographer and one cosplayer. All submitted photos will be exhibited at our venue during Magicon!
Rules for submissions
There is no limit to the number of photos cosplayers and photographers can submit. However, every unique team of photographer and cosplayer can only submit one picture together.
Should the photo include two or more cosplayers, one cosplayer will serve as representative for the photo and will be the one awarded should their submission win either of the prizes. Deciding on a representative is the group’s responsibility and should be done with consent from all subjects in the photo. All cosplayers in the photo must be credited.

1. Number of pictures and participation:
There is no limit in the number of photos cosplayers and photographers can submit. However, every unique team of photographer and cosplayer can only submit one photo together.
Example: Photographer Mary may submit a photo of both cosplayer John and cosplayer Ann as two different submissions, but may not submit two photos of cosplayer John.
2. Costume
- The participating team has to keep both the cosplay and photo PG13.
- Bought, selfmade or commissioned cosplays are all welcome
- Official characters, original interpretations of official characters (such as steampunk versions, AUs, casual versions, historically accurate etc) and OCs and book characters are all welcome.
3. Age limit
- Cosplayer and photographer must both be at least 13 y.o in order to participate in the contest.
4. Submitting the application
- A team of one photographer and one cosplayer submit their photo together. The submitting party must do this with the other party’s consent
- For submissions featuring two or more cosplayers, one cosplayer will serve as representative for the photo and will be the one awarded should their submission win either of the prizes. - When submitting their application, adding reference photos is optional, but encouraged. This includes reference photos of official characters, but may also include other materials used as reference or inspiration or technical materials such as light setup and so on.

Prizes
The winning team (photographer and cosplayer) will be honoured with prizes.
In addition to the main prize we will also give a newcomer prize to one team of photographer and cosplayer. This prize is made to encourage the young hopeful photographers in our community to get more spotlight. In order to be eligible for this prize the photographer of the team should be non-commercial and not have a photography-related business entity tied to their name (enkeltmannsforetak), or work professionally as a photographer (past or present), regardless of whether said employment includes experience with specifically cosplay photography (e.g. a commercial portrait photographer who has never previously worked with cosplayers will be ineligible for this prize).
The winners of the PhotoCosplay Competition will be announced at Magicon Elevation’s Ending show.
