Rules for Master Cosplay Competition (single)

ALL FILES MUST BE SUBMITTED NO LATER THAN 20TH OF MAY 2023. IF FILES ARE NOT SUBMITTED BY THE DEADLINE, THE CONTESTANTS WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. THESE REQUIREMENTS ARE GIVEN BY THE STAFF AT CHATEAU NEUF.

Cosplay

• The character portrayed by the contestant has to be from officially published media. Therefore it is not possible to compete with original characters (OCs) or cosplays based on fanart.
• The contestant must have made the cosplay themselves. Minor parts such as shoes or wigs may be bought to serve as a base, with modifications done by the contestant.
• When submitting their application, the contestants must add reference pictures of the character they want to compete with. The reference pictures should be of high quality, show the character in as many different angles as possible, and be part of the character’s officially published design.
• It is optional to send in documentation of the making of the cosplay, but recommended. Documentation must be submitted via Google Forms in advance.
• The contestant has to keep both the cosplay and performance PG13.
• The cosplayer is not allowed to participate with the cosplay which has previously won or placed in competitions without at least 70% improvement on the given cosplay.
• The contestant is allowed to bring a helper on stage, but the main focus must clearly be on the contestant.

Judging

The evaluation of the cosplay itself will be done before the performance. Based on the reference pictures provided, the cosplay will be judged on the following criteria:

• Likeness* to the character
• Quality of craftsmanship
• The difficulty of the cosplay and its realisation

The stage performance will be judged on the following criteria:

• Stage presence and immersion
• Likeness to the character
• Level of entertainment and engagement

In this competition these criteria are weighted as follows:

• Details and ambition/development – 30 %
• Construction– 40 %
• Performance– 30 %

The judges decision is final and there will not be any room for discussion. There will be no obligation for the judges to give feedback. It is expected that the contestants are behaving civilly towards each other, the judges, and the crew, no matter how the decisions turn out to be.

It is the contestants responsibility to show up on time for the prejudge and performance. If there are any unforeseen problems, get in contact with the members of the crew who are responsible for the competition.

*Likeness

The judges will only evaluate how the costume is constructed and how the competitor is using it to achieve likeness to the character it is based on. Factors such as gender, height, weight, skin colour, or similar aspects are not to be taken into consideration.
