Magicon Accessibility Information
Accessibility and inclusion is a very important subject for Magicon.
On this page you will find accessibility information for Magicon Vanguard.
We are located at Oslo Konserthus (often referred to as OKH), which is an older venue that lacks some modern universal design features. After consultation with Hjelpemiddelsentralen, there are no legal or safe methods to increase accessibility at OKH. We are in the process of looking into moving to a different venue.
Now, let’s get into accessibility at Magicon Vanguard!
Accompanying Persons and Service Dogs
Accompanying person (ledsager)
If you require an accompanying person with you at Magicon your companion can enter Magicon for free, but only if you have a valid companion certificate (ledsagerbevis). When you arrive at Magicon you must show the certificate to the security crew at the main entrance. They will make sure your accompanying person gains entry to Magicon.
Service Dogs
Service dogs are of course welcome by law. Other emotional support animals are unfortunately not allowed inside the convention.

Travel and Parking Accessibility
Jujuinthebox
Arriving by car with a wheelchair or reduced mobility
If you are arriving by car at Oslo konserthus and you are in a wheelchair, or have reduced mobility, you can use the elevator at the “Oslo Konserthus office and stage entrance” for easier access to the entrance hall. At arrival get in touch with the reception guard for further instructions. Once you are inside the building, you must show your ticket and receive a wristband from the Magicon Security crew by the main entrance. Due to the limited elevator capacity the process can take some time, so we encourage visitors to have this in mind
Parking
Drop-off and parking is available in the parking area beneath Oslo Konserthus at Munkedamsveien 14. Be aware that you have to pay a parking fee for all parking spots, including HC parking.
Arriving by public transport
Oslo Konserthus is very easy to get to by public transport. You can take buses, trams, subways and trains to Nationaltheatret station. OKH is within 2-5 minutes walking distance. All stations are universally designed and wheelchair accessible.
For easy ticket booking and travel information we recommend using the Ruter app on your phone. It is available in both Norwegian and English. You can download it from Android and Apple app stores.
Handicap Toilets
Handicap toilets
There are two HC toilets available at OKH. The first is located next to Lillesal in the main foyer, inside the crew area. Talk to the Magicon crew who are stationed in the hallway next to Lillesal and they will help you with access to the HC toilet.
The second HC toilet is located in Klubb (Røverstaden)
Please use toilets for sanitary purposes or medical needs only. They are not intended for changing into costumes or applying makeup. Because we have a limited amount of toilets it is important to not create unnecessary lines and stress for people needing to use the facilities as intended.

Store Sal (The Main Stage)
The main stage is located on the second floor of the convention venue. You can reach the second floor by stairs or by elevator. There is an elevator especially for wheelchair users located in the entrance hall. You can find it to the right, next to the big staircase. If you can’t find it you can ask the Magicon crew for directions. The doorwidth of the wheelchair elevator is 80 cm, and the elevator itself is 100 cm deep. There are also smaller elevators next to the small winding staircases in the main foyer.
In Store Sal there are reserved spaces for wheelchairs on row 20 and 21.
Large electric wheelchairs must be placed on row 21. The floor slants a bit on row 21, so it is recommended to use the breaks on your chair. Click the link to view the seating chart in Store Sal at OKH: https://oslokonserthus.no/salkart
There are also hearing loops (teleslynger) available for people who use hearing aids in the main hall on row 8 and row 14. It is recommended to sit on these rows, or close to these rows. See the venue map for an overview of the seating chart.
To receive the hearing loop signal your hearing aid must be set to T.

Lille Sal (The Small Stage)
The small stage is located in the main foyer (first floor) at OKH. You can find it right past the long bar counter that you see on your left when entering from the entrance hall.
There are reserved spots for wheel chairs on the right side of the stage. These spots are available on the same level you enter on.

Glasshuset (The Glass House)
The big glass room where a large part of the Artist Alley is located on the second floor, not far from the entrance to Store Sal. This area is also accessible via the wheelchair elevator in the entrance hall. The doorwidth of the wheelchair elevator is 80 cm, and the elevator itself is 100 cm deep. If you can’t find it, you can ask the Magicon crew for directions.
Klubb (Røverstaden)
This stage is situated one floor below the Magicon main floor. To access Klubb (Røverstaden) you must first exit through the main entrance doors and turn right. You will then see a set of stairs – walk down the stairs. At the bottom of the stairs turn right again and follow the street until you see a door with “Røverstaden” written above it.
If you are using a wheelchair you have to go around the block to get to the club stage. It’s a longer route so we recommend giving yourself 8-10 extra minutes of travel time in order to get to Klubb on time. We realise that this can be inconvenient, but it is the only route available for wheelchairs. Once you enter Røverstaden you must get in touch with the Magicon crew member on post. They will take you to Klubb via a wheelchair friendly route that goes through a restricted crew area. We have made an infographic and a video explaining how to get to Klubb via the stairs and by the wheelchair friendly route. Watch it here:

Inaccessible areas in the Main Foyer
There are some Artist Alley and activity areas located in the Main Foyer beyond the stairs leading down past the wardrobes that unfortunately are not accessible by wheelchairs.
We have tried our very best to make Magicon as accessible as possible, but because our venue is old it does not follow new universal design guidelines to the same degree as newer, more modern venues. There are no plausible legal and safe methods to increase accessibility to this part of the venue.
If there is a particular vendor located in this area that you are interested in purchasing wares from, try to get in touch with the vendor in advance of Magicon Vanguard and see if you can come to an arrangement.

Recommendations for Sensory Overload and More
Rugile
Be Prepared – take care of yourself!
A cosplay event like Magicon includes a lot of walking, people, noise, heat, cold, and activity! Remember to take care of yourself – drink enough fluids and eat enough food.
June can be very hot and it is easy to become dehydrated or overheated. Check the weather forecast in advance in case of rain, cold winds or sunshine and high temperatures. That way you can be prepared for any eventualities.
Shoes and blistering
We recommend that you bring comfortable shoes you can walk around in all day. We also recommend wearing heels only for short periods of time. On stage, and in photo shoots for example. If you plan on wearing high heels or uncomfortable shoes we suggest bringing blister bandaids/plasters like “Compeed”.
Sensory overload
A lot of people often experience sensory overload due to large crowds, noise and bright lights at conventions. We can’t offer quiet rooms at OKH, but there are benches outside and inside the venue where you can sit to have a little rest. If you often experience sensory overload we recommend that you bring a noise reducing/cancelling headset or earplugs, and/or a pair of dark sunglasses. We can also recommend getting in touch with the amazing Magicon FeelGood Crew, they are there to ensure that everyone has a great time.
