Code of Conduct
Rules, Values, and Expectations
MagiCon’s Code of Conduct should mirror MagiCon’s brand values, and its mission is to give all visitors and crew a shared platform for interaction.
Magicon’s values are:
Our Code of Conduct is there to make sure that everyone (regardless of their level of knowledge of the cosplay scene) has a common understanding of how to behave in relation to each other, address each other, and treat each other. It’s to ensure that everyone involved has an enjoyable and good experience at MagiCon, and that everyone should want to return to future conventions.
MagiCon’s code of conduct is rooted in Norwegian law, social norms and common sense.
Drugs and Alcohol:
MagiCon is a drug and alcohol free Event – Security reserves the right to search and control the contents of drinking bottles and personal containers etc.
If we suspect that any participants or crew members are under the influence of drugs or alcohol they will get escorted off the premises.
MagiCon is a smoke free event, smoking and use of e-cigarettes should happen in designated areas only.
Privacy Policy:
MagiCon is an event for everyone – across all religions, sexual orientations, gender identities, ethnicities, age and background.
Be considerate and respect other people.
Cosplay does not equal consent – you should treat people respectfully regardless of the type of costume or cosplay that other participants have chosen to portray. Touching is only allowed if consent is given.
You can only take pictures or videos of someone with their consent.
Costumes should at a minimum cover genitalia and nipples. Keep in mind that MagiCon is an All Ages event. Security will keep this as the number 1 priority when considering individual costumes.
Targeted, racist, hateful, offensive and derogatory comments and/or speech is not tolerated and will lead to expulsion from MagiCon.
Bullying is not tolerated at MagiCon.
You are responsible for your own behavior and the consequences of your actions.
Free hugs:
We welcome everyone who wants to give out free hugs, but there are some rules:
Costumes and Props:
Be aware of your surroundings, look out for other participants or objects/props. Many cosplayers spend a lot of time and energy producing their cosplays and you can be held liable to compensation if you break these. If you are a cosplayer, make sure that you also look out for your costume and props. Do not leave things in spots where people are likely to bump into or step on them.
Upon entry to the Venue, all costumes, props and personal property are subject to a security check. This is to ensure that costumes and props don’t go against MagiCon’s rules and guidelines, or in any way poses a threat to safety at the Event.
Magicon expressly reserves the right to refuse or store weapons, props and other costume parts, or any unsafe or inappropriate articles at our own discretion.
Magicon expressly reserves the right to confiscate and keep props and costume parts, even if they are preapproved, if they go against Norwegian law or MagiCons own rules.
Serious breach of the Criminal Law paragraph 189 c will be reported to the police.
Management reserves its rights to deny admission or entry, and to remove a Participant to any part of the Event, if they fail to comply with MagiCon’s rules, or instructions given by the Crew.
Duty and Responsibility:
MagiCon aspires to be a clean Event, and therefore expects you to make use of bins, ashtrays and recycling points around the venue.
Participants are required to read and understand the rules and regulations. MagiCon reserves the right to change or make corrections to the rules and regulations at any point in time. It’s the duty of the Participant to remain informed of the applicable rules and regulations at all times. The Participant is required to read and familiarize themselves with MagiCon’s cosplay and cosgear rules prior to the Event.
MagiCon is not financially liable for props and costume parts that are kept in storage by Security.
As a Participant you are required to follow instructions provided by Police, Fire and Ambulance Crew along with MagiCon’s crew members and venue staff members.
You are not allowed to bring electrical appliances such as kettles, microwaves etc. Chargers for electrical items such as phones and card machines are approved.
Assistance/Notifying staff:
If you’re experiencing unwanted behavior, please notify the nearest crew member. This person will put you in touch with Security. The Security crew will then handle the situation.
If you see anyone in need of help, please notify the nearest Crew Member.
Toilets:
The toilets are not changing rooms or make-up stations – this also applies to the accessible toilets. They are for sanitary purposes only. Do your business, wash your hands and leave the toilets in a state your mother would approve of. If there are any issues with the toilets, please notify any member of the Magicon crew.
Be considerate and don’t occupy the toilets more than necessary. It’s okay to use the sinks and mirrors to check and touch up your make-up quickly, but use common sense and respect that other people also need to use the space.
Pinhole Cameras and Meta (filming) Glasses:
Filming and the use of photographic equipment
Magicon recognizes that there are substantial challenges around the use of new and modern photographic equipment. Meta glasses and hidden cameras give rise to new challenges. The Norwegian data protection authority (Datatilsynet) has laid down strict rules regarding your personal information (GDPR).
We remind our visitors that Magicons rules concerning photographing or filming of others without consent still apply, and will be handled accordingly.
Magicon requires all users of meta-glasses/video-glasses, pinhole cameras or other hard to see cameras to wear a note/patch with the text: Filming in progress.
We would also like to remind you that you are required to delete all footage of a person, upon that person’s request.
§ 266. Reckless behavior
Anyone who, by intimidating or harassing behavior or other reckless behavior, pursues a person or otherwise violates the peace of another, shall be punished with a fine or imprisonment for up to 2 years.
§ 266 a. Serious personal persecution
Anyone who repeatedly threatens, follows, observes, contacts or through other comparable actions pursues another in a manner that is likely to arouse fear or anxiety, shall be punished with imprisonment for up to 4 years.
Jump Scares:
Jump scares, threatening behavior or scary behaviour
At Magicon you are allowed to stay in character, but you are not allowed to scare, jumpscare or act in a threatening manner towards other visitors or crew.
The use of costumes or cosplay for the purposes of harassing, intimidating or jumpscaring others is forbidden.
For example, we all love the Joker, but we would very much like to refrain from meeting the actual Joker.
